Just days after opening Sisters Thai in Mosaic District, owner Sumontita Disayawathana is already thinking about more. “This isn’t the last one,” Disayawathana says. “I am planning on having four restaurants under the Sisters Thai name, each having their own character.”
This restaurant with a cafe spin—dubbed The Living Room Café—first opened in downtown Fairfax in 2013. After being offered a spot in Mosaic District, Disayawathana grabbed the opportunity for an expansion and opened the second location—nicknamed The Ordinary Café—this past Sunday.

The Mosaic District Sisters Thai continues the story: “The sister has grown up—richer colors and stronger personality. You can feel it here,” Disayawathana says. The white walls and small accents from Sisters Fairfax are replaced by warm brown colors and an expanded signature bookshelf.
At the Mosaic District location, there’s a full bar with large TVs and outdoor seating options. The separate bakery station offers coffee and cakes made in-house and gives a glimpse of the aesthetic of the first restaurant.
With more space in the kitchen, Disayawathana has expanded the menu: grilled panang salmon, skewered pork barbecue or sausage and khao soi, or noodles with curry coconut milk.
“I want to create my brand so that people will keep thinking about Thai food even after they leave the restaurant,” says Disayawathana. / Sisters Thai; 2985 District Ave., Fairfax
